I learned that being a founder myself can be tremendously exciting and rewarding. Learning about and understanding clothing manufacturing, distribution, and retail partners were processes that couldn’t be substituted by merely watching it happen. There were difficulties but as Jim Collins wrote, “What separates people…is not the presence or absence of difficulty, but how they deal with the inevitable difficulties of life.” In developing the project from beginning to end, Cycles La Femme launched as a clothing brand for the women’s cycling market and was sold not only online but across the U.S. and the U.K. in 29 stores. Even now, some of the lessons I consider the best in my life resulted from working on Cycles La Femme.
